Smack Down rules:


1. Composers maintain 100% ownership of their pieces.

2. All pieces must be between 3:45 and 4:15 in duration.

3. GHP's artistic directors will choose the sixteen compositions to be performed at the concert.

4. The winner will be chosen by the audience at the concert.

5. Submission deadline is September 1, finalists announced October 1.

5. By entering this competition you agree to allow GHP to record your piece for rehearsal purposes. Only the pieces chosen for the final tournament will be recorded. Should your piece be recorded you will receive an MP3 copy by email.

6. Entries will only be accepted via upload on this page.

7. Tournament format is as follows:
a. 1st round: the first minute of all 16 finalists will be performed in pairs and the audience will vote to eliminate one of the pieces in each pair
b. 2nd round: the first 2 minutes of the remaining 8 pieces will be performed in pairs and the audience will vote to eliminate one piece in each pair
c. 3rd round: the first 3 minutes of the remaining 4 pieces will be performed in pairs and the audience will vote to eliminate one piece in each pair
d. final round: the entirety of the 2 remaining pieces will be performed and the audience will select the tournament champion composition

Upload instructions:

1. Create a folder on your computer and name it the title of your submitted piece.

2. Move into the folder the following:
a. a text document (.txt, .rtf, .pages, .doc are acceptable) titled with the name of your piece (DO NOT TITLE IT WITH YOUR NAME!) that includes:
1) your name
2) your address
3) your primary phone number
4) your primary email
5) your bio or CV (optional)
b. a Sibelius file of your piece, OR a printed score and reference recording

3. compress the folder into a .zip file
a. on a Mac:
1) select your folder
2) under the FILE menu, select "compress"
b. on a PC:
1) select your folder
2) right-click the folder, point to Send To, and then click Compressed (zipped) Folder.

4. Click the "browse" button above, navigate to your .zip folder and select it.

5. Click the "upload" button above.
